For most of Marvel Studios’ Phase 4, the multiverse has been at the center of the costume’s storytelling effort. This is especially true when it comes to a movie like Doctor Strange in a multiverse of madnesswhere much of the image is shot in an alternate reality that is not the primary timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Due to multi-world optimism, Marvel was able to reinstate Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier, making the character the first mutant to appear in the franchise. Although rumors in the run-up to the film insisted that Magneto—whether Ian McKellan’s or Michael Fassbender’s version—would be presented –a stranger Producer Richie Palmer does not remember whether any serious conversations were held about the matter.
“I don’t know if this was really talked about, again, about it [Michael] Palmer said on a recent episode of Empire Podcast (via direct).
As the producer says, it was already difficult to explain the Illuminati and other multi-world concepts, let alone get an entire X-Men group into the mix.
“I think that once you start getting into Magneto and explaining the mutants, you know, I think the appearance of the Illuminati in that movie is self-explanatory. I think you understand them and you know… I think it’s all right for you, the producer.” That, and trying to explain these things, would probably detract from the experience. However, who would say in this universe, this Wanda is different from Wanda we have a different back story, there is Professor Xavier over there, there are Mutants, and there are Inhumans. So, you have to believe that she definitely has her own version of that story going. “
